Q&A: Male Sexuality In The Face of Physical Pain

Numb After Bike Accident Q: I had a bike accident as a child. I believe I broke my penis at the base. I’ve experienced loss of sensation over the years. Now I’m completely numb. I’ve never talked to anyone about this as I thought it was normal for years. Please contact me with your medical advice on whether you think this is reversible. I’m 35 and never achieved orgasm with a partner as it takes extreme pressure and friction. I’ve been abstaining from shame for years now. It’s ruined my life. I would appreciate your advice. Thank you. A: I am truly sorry this has happened to you. Although I am not a medical doctor, it sounds like the accident caused some nerve damage. I would urge you to seek the advice of a urologist—a doctor that specializes in the penis (among other internal parts) to see what can be done to help you. It also sounds to me like you could use someone to talk to about all this. I would recommend you seek some psychological support as well to address your feelings of shame, frustration and other emotions you may be experiencing. Damaged Penis
Q: A couple of years ago, during sex, my now-ex jumped up and out and came back down, bending my penis severely to the right. It was very painful. I cannot achieve a full erection ever since. There is an area at the base of my penis that is restricted and is always limp to the right at that point. There is also a mass in that spot about the size of an oblong dime.
My doctor recommended that I manually break down of that mass (break it up with my fingers) or fix it with a series of multiple injections over a period of around six months to one year. Not my idea of fun. Giving myself a shot into this mass three times a week is just unimaginable.
It is very difficult to have a sexual relationship when your junk doesn’t work.
Any words of wisdom A: From your description, it sounds like you broke (fractured) your penis. And yes, a penis can break, even though there is no bone in it. And it usually happens with the kind of situation you described. Basically, a penile fracture involves the rupture of the fibrous coverings surrounding the spongy tissues in the penis. It is usually caused by a rapid blunt force to an erect penis (usually during aggressive masturbation or rigorous intercourse). Because it happened a while ago, you likely developed scar tissue which could explain the lump, and certainly the erectile dysfunction. This is usually corrected by surgery. I have never heard of manually breaking it again. Please see a urologist (a medical specialist) to see what can be done. In the meantime, you can pleasure your partner with your mouth and your hands, or the use of a sex toy. Pain in My Testicles Q: I need help trying to find out why my testicles are always hurting. A: I cannot answer your question even generally because first, I am not a medical doctor, and second, you’ve provided minimal information. What I can tell you is that for any man experiencing pain, they should seek out a doctor. The doctor will ask you all sorts of questions to figure out the cause of the pain and offer you treatment options. The medical doctor will also examine you. So please don’t let this drag on, and get yourself to a doctor. Foreskin Pain Q: I have only just found out about the foreskin and when I try to pull it back I go light-headed and feel sick also I can’t pull it all the way back because of the pain and there is a large buildup of some weird substance. I am getting really self-conscious about it and scared. A: It sounds like your foreskin is kind of “stuck” which is causing you pain when you pull it back. The buildup is called smegma. It is important to be able to pull back the foreskin to properly clean the penis to avoid bacteria buildup and possible infection. Anytime you experience penile pain, you should consult your doctor. There is treatment for this condition (Phimosis).
